Frequently Asked Questions
What is an XML sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a file that lists all the URLs on your website to help search engines discover and crawl your pages more efficiently. It's especially important for large sites or sites with JavaScript-heavy content.
How do I submit a sitemap to Google?
Go to Google Search Console, select your property, navigate to 'Sitemaps' in the left menu, and enter your sitemap URL (e.g. https://example.com/sitemap.xml).
What should the priority value be?
Priority (0.0–1.0) is relative to other pages on your site. Set your homepage to 1.0, main category pages to 0.8, and regular content pages to 0.5–0.7. Search engines may ignore priority, but it's a useful hint.
Does a sitemap guarantee my pages get indexed?
No. A sitemap tells Google your pages exist, but indexing is at Google's discretion based on content quality, PageRank, and crawl budget. Make sure each URL has unique, useful content to be worth indexing.
